My apologies to Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber and Gaige Grosskreutz. The judicial system didn't fail you. The judicial system worked as it was designed and demonstrated that it wasn't meant for you. There is no justice to be found here and for that I am sorry.
Even before the trial began, the judge had already decided that it wasn't going to go your way. It was very obvious from the way he acted and by the rules he had set forth for the trial that he didn't give a shit about you or your families.
As soon as he said that the victims of a shooting were not allowed to be referred to as victims of a shooting, that judge made it very clear that the fix was in. The perpetrator was damn near sitting on the judge's lap by the end of the proceedings. “Come on up here, boy. I'll regale you with tales from when I too used to get up to some racisms. Now my racisms were nothing like your double murder and debilitating injury but I did get into a few racist dust ups in my younger days.”
I still don't understand the logic behind the verdicts but that doesn't matter. A claim of self defense should theoretically be voided when the perpetrator is the one that caused the situation in which they needed to defend themselves. In other words, if you fuck around, you might end up facing consequences for said fucking around. But that only applies to a certain portion of our society which has been made abundantly clear time and time again.
The perpetrator has been making the rounds on fascist media trying to drum up sympathy and even more supporters. I will not be surprised if he ends up making campaign speeches in the coming months. Hell, he's already had a meeting with our scumbag rapist of a former president.
Frightened, white Amerikkka has a new poster boy and they will make great use of him. Trayvon Martin's murderer may have bottomed out with autograph signings at gun shows but this pasty white boy might have some staying power as the new Captain Amerikkka in the coming civil war. He'll be on a Wheaties box within the next five years.
Besides the awfulness of somebody getting away with murder, these verdicts set the dangerous precedent that it is now open season on protesters. Those two yahoos from Missouri that were waving guns around on their front lawn can now open fire on a passing crowd and can claim self defense because they were scared. And, by the way, those two yahoos travelled to Wisconsin during this trial to show their support for the perpetrator.
This may end up causing people to think twice before they go out into the streets to stick their finger into the eye of The System. And that more than likely was the desired result. This could be Power telling us that we can raise our voices but then run the risk of getting gunned down by some cosplaying dipshit when our voices get too loud.
. . .
As I was writing, the verdict was announced in the broad daylight lynching of Ahmaud Arbery. Those three crackers were convicted but I would hardly call that justice. This is more accountability than justice. If there were justice in this world, Ahmaud Arbery would have died of old age many years from now.
The white colonial mentality will soon start yelling from every rooftop that racism is fixed or doesn't even exist because three murderers actually got convicted of murder. They'll start quoting Martin Luther King Jr. or spewing something along the lines of, “See, The System works because of this one instance where it did. Never mind the thousands of other times that people got away with their crimes. And never ever mention the times when the wrong person was convicted for crimes that they didn't commit. The System is infallible and fuck you for suggesting otherwise.”
Always remember that if it weren't for Arbery's family, a video and millions of other people crying out Ahmaud's murder would have been swept under the rug. The coverup was in full effect until people started to make some noise.
I thought the fix was in with this trial, as well. When one of the defense attorneys was complaining about all of the “Black Pastors” sitting in the public gallery my eyes started to roll. It seems that this lawyer should have been a little more calculated with his racism instead of putting it on display for the world to see.
I can definitely hear some of my relatives saying that Arbery would still be alive if he weren't jogging where he shouldn't have been. The responsibility always lands on the victim and not the people that are afraid of a Black person passing by. This is what happens when a country hasn't dealt with its centuries old racism problem.
This problem is only going to get worse with the current effort to eliminate History from our education systems and replace it with Tall Tales of White Supremacy. There is something coming down the line because white supremacy will not go quietly into the night. I'm not sure what it will be but I have a feeling that, whatever it is, it won't be good. Too many people are scared and those same people are arming themselves to the teeth. We are good and fucked and there are not enough people acknowledging how fucked we are.
