Episode 57: Live From The Ice System Of Hoth

Greetings Dear Listener,

If you have not heard by now, earlier this week we lost one of the greatest Americans of the last century.  Pete Seeger passed away at the age of 94.  In this episode, I make a meager attempt at paying tribute to the man.

Pete Seeger stood up for the common man and spoke out for peace and equality at times when it was not always popular to do so.  From workers' rights to civil rights to anti-war demonstrations, Pete Seeger was there for us for over 70 years.  We seem to be running out voices for the voiceless.

From someone that upheld the ideals of America to those that are trying to destroy them:  Dennis Miller and Bill O'Reilly are touring together and are somehow booked at arenas.  Chelsea Handler is also on an arena tour.  Larry The Cable Guy came through town recently playing a symphony hall.  To all of this the only thing I can say is:  What the fuck?  Mediocrity is holding sway and humanity is doomed.  I give up.

And as if we all didn't have enough reasons to hate Sea World, check out the documentary Black Fish that is currently streaming on the Netflix.  Here's a trailer for it:
In better news, there will be a wonderful event in 2015.  Marvel Universe Live will be coming to town two Octobers from now.  I don't know what it will exactly be but I'm a big enough nerd to want to find out.  Here's a promo trailer for that too:
I haven't picked up the Mind Cure single for January yet.  It came out last weekend but the weather didn't seem too agreeable for traveling to a neighborhood with the word "Hill" at the end of it.  I may have an illness but it hasn't gotten to point where I'd be willing to bobsled down hill in my car for records.

However, I finally picked up Slayer's vinyl reissue of God Hates Us All, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue in mono.  My house may be cold but at least it's a rockin'.

The Circle Jerks live album Gig is going to be issued on vinyl.  There are only 500 being pressed so get your pre-order in now.  Shop Radio Cast still seems to have it listed.  It looks like the pre-order on Interpunk is no longer available.

The new Against Me! is out.  Transgender Dysphoria Blues is a solid 10 tracks.  We'll be getting into that in a few episodes.

That's all for now.

Thanks for listening.

Take it easy.  But take it.

Episode 56: Feat. DJ Evolution

Greetings Dear Listener,

We have a special guest joining us for this episode.  DJ Evolution stops by to aid in assembling the playlist.  We keep the musical mood light and have some fun while doing it.

Iggy Pop has done a few radio shows on the BBC.  Luckily there is an online source for our listening pleasure.  They can be found here.  Along with hours and hours of Henry Rollins' radio output.

The shows heading to town this spring are getting interesting.  The Sword will be here on March 3rd.  Tinariwen will be here on April 1st.  And the Julie Ruin will come to town on April 11th.  Brimming with excitement am I.

April 8th will bring us a new OFF! album titled Wasted Years.  Hooray.  There aren't any pre-orders listed yet but I'm sure that will change in a few weeks.

Against Me!'s new record comes out on January 21st.  Anti-Flag and the Gaslight Anthem are recording as well.  2014 will be an interesting year.

Rise Against's Siren Songs Of The Counter Culture has been given another vinyl pressing thus lowering the value of my record collection once again.  Oh well.

The internet went bonkers when Judas Priest was referred to as a death metal band on The Simpsons.  Metalheads with nothing else to do but bitch on the internets through a fit.  At some point people need to realize that there are these things called jokes and a cartoon may tell these things called jokes from time to time.

I made a rather successful trip to the comic book store the other day.  I came across the anthology of Frank Miller's run on Daredevil.  If you want gritty crime stories this is the book for you.  These stories are where Frank Miller hit his creative stride and reinvigorated a great character that was almost discarded by Marvel.  Don't let a shitty Afleck movie ruin Daredevil for you.  That character has more depth than that awful script could handle.

I also brought home the Surfing Batman action figure.  Here's what it looks like:

The only thing missing is a can of shark repellent.

Justice League: War comes out on DVD on February 4th.  It's an animated adaptation of the first few issues of the Justice League when it was rebooted under the New 52.  Here's the trailer for it:

Episode 55: Too Busy Re-Watching Breaking Bad To Think Of A Witty Title

Greetings Dear Listener,

We can now put away our Christmas helmets and crawl out of our New Year's bunkers.  The holiday grind is behind us and we can now resume our regular day to day grind.

Speaking of Christmas, we can all remember this fond childhood moment:

Yes, that really happened.  If anyone claims that the 80's weren't a strange, fucked up time in our history, just show them this picture to set them straight.

I was going to post the local car ad that Gary Busey did a few years ago dressed as Santa but that was somehow not posted on the youtubes.

The Helmet/Melvins split single from their tour of Australia has hit the internets.  I should have it in hand by the end of next week.  Here's what the cover looks like:

I finally saw the Lone Ranger.  I actually enjoyed it but I still can't understand why they spent $215 million on it.  Westerns used to be made in abundance because they were always the cheapest to film.  That has apparently changed.

In a PR move ahead of the Winter Olympics, Vladimir Putin released the two remaining members of Pussy Riot that were being held.  I guess the thinking is that no one will notice the shit ton of other human-rights abuses if two high profile prisoners are released.  Oh well.  Outside of Women's Curling, who really gives a shit about the Winter Olympics.

It seems that the "new" Black Flag album came out last month.  Here's the funniest customer review that I read on the Amazons:

"My father died prior to this album's release. That's all that stops this waste of studio time from being the biggest tragedy of my life in 2013."

Ron Reyes was sacked as the singer of the band while they were on tour in Australia.  Here's a link to an article that includes Ron's statement about being fired during a show.  The name Black Flag has become a sad joke to me.

Zeitgeist played last night but I was too old and lazy to go to the show.  Feeding my inner-nerd with episodes of Maron and Arrow on the Netflix seemed like a better option than dealing with other humans.  Zeitgeist does have a new-ish EP available on their Bandcamp page for download.  It was a tape they put together for their tour back in November.  There were only 100 cassettes made so I'm sure I missed out on it.

The new Minutes LP, Roland, was dropped off by my friendly neighborhood mailman, this morning.  The download was good but the LP was gooder.  You can go here to see for yourself.  We will certainly be getting further into it as the weeks go by.

Thanks for listening.
